  • "What a wonderful cottage, in a secluded and very rural location."

A great way to unwind and enjoy New Years week in a gorgeous and well appointed cottage. The contact from the owners was much appreciated, little gifts left for our arrival and Xmas trimmings still in place. Very reasonably priced, and a very spacious cottage left us with a great holiday and super memories. We will return one day.

We had excellent communication from the owners before and throughout our stay (with advice about the area and warning us of a problem with the boiler which was fixed while we were there).

  • "We had a great stay at Farriers Cottage."

Its in a beautiful location & has everything that you need for a perfect holiday. The owners have made a big effort to make their house welcoming & cosy. It was spotless & the antique furniture & books & paintings made it feel very homely. We appreciated the information that they sent us beforehand as it made it easy for us to plan ahead. There were also plenty of leaflets & books in the cottage so we had no trouble finding places to visit. We thought the garden & patio at the cottage was very peaceful & we enjoyed listening to the birds & watching the rabbits on the lawn. Sedbergh is only a short drive away & we had great fun browsing the many bookshops there. We also had a great day at the Wensleydsle Creamery & thought some of the local museums were well worth a visit. We would love to come back here again & would highly recommend the cottage. To the owners Many Thanks for all youve to done to make your cottage a great wee getaway in the beautiful Yorkshire Dale's.

The kids love it and so do the dogs. You can organise a Sainsbury’s home delivery to help stock the fridge and the spa in town is easy to get too. Lots of amazing walks nearby. We highly recommend this cottage!

My only comment would be is this, skirting boards, door frames and front door needs freshening up. I have just been inform as of August I will need to find a 12 month rental, its a pity that the Farrier is fully booked out. I will try and get the odd week reserved, love the tranquility your property had offered. Thank you Best regards Manny

We're so glad you enjoyed your 3 week stay and appreciate your feedback. Winder Services were at the cottage within 24 hours of your review and have noted some areas to touch up- one of the constant challenges of keeping a traditional dales cottage fresh especially after a busy winter season. They will take care of this as soon as bookings permit. Thank you for leaving the cottage so tidy upon your departure! Property Owner

The cottage is very homely, comfortable and well equipped and during the recent cold weather was lovely and warm too. Winder Services who service the property are excellent, providing a welcome pack upon arrival and are able to answer any questions or sort issues out promptly if they occur. They are a company dedicated to getting things right. We had a lovely stay - our second in actual fact and will be returning again at some point to the cottage in this lovely part of the country.

Dog walking is limited from the cottage but the lane before the bridge is helpful. Even though the weather was poor the cottage was warm & snug & we used the stove once, which is easy to use. Nice welcome touch for both us & the dog.

It's a beautiful house with great views of the surrounding nature. The house is cosy and very well maintained. The kitchen has a lot of equipment which has made cooking and serving dinner very comfortable. We were also really pleased about the welcome gifts and the selection of games and tips for the local area. The garden gets direct sunlight most of the day. Overall, this is a great place to stay.

It is in a brilliant location; has lots of space and is equipped with WiFi, Netflix, TV on demand, shelves of board games, facilities for washing and drying and a well equipped kitchen. It also has an amazing fire and the views are spectacular. It is well located for accessing the Dales and the Lakes and was perfect for our young family and 4 legged friend! we look forward to going again.

Cottage very nice but cleaning left a lot to be desired.didnt look as if it had been vacuumed (not surprised as vaccuum was completely blocked up).fire laid but not cleaned out.it was freezing cold when we arrived and could not get fire to burn.cleaned it out next morning and ash tray was full and blocking grate.had to scrape it all through.one bed had unironed sheets and looked unappealing.there was thick dust on bottom of lamp standards and a cork underneath a sofa?asked if it would be decorated for xmas and got no reply.decoration consisted of a string of lights across fireplace and a plastic wreath.could have taken some of my own had i known.also the person who left feedback to say he had a bottle of bubbly left for him was lucky.we didnt even get a con of pop.

We are very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay at Farriers cottage and that there were a number of things that detracted from your enjoyment of your stay. We did contact you prior to your arrival to let you know that due an oversight the heating had only been turned on a couple of hours before you got there (you emailed back to say this was not a problem); we recognize that a cold cottage is an unwelcome way to arrive. There are full instructions in the cottage that we hope you found on how to boost the temperature. We also emailed a full Farriers Cottage handbook to you before your arrival detailing among other things how to increase the cottage temperature. We were a little puzzled by a couple of your comments as the cottage had been vacuumed twice before your arrival- including on the day before you arrived. The sheets are always fully laundered, although it is possible that they may have become a little creased during transport to the cottage. We appreciate and note the other feedback and we will ensure that particular attention is paid to these items in future. We responded to a message from Sykes in early December when you enquired about whether the cottage would be decorated for Christmas and we replied to them that, due a lack of storage space, unfortunately we are not able to provide much in the way of Christmas decorations. I am sorry that it seems you did not receive this feedback from Sykes. We would like to point out that you had our email and the email/telephone number of the local person who looks after the cottage, and we would have been happy to resolve any of your concerns at the time had you but contacted us. We apologise again for the collective omissions that clearly detracted from your enjoyment of the Christmas holiday Property Owner

  • "Farriers Cottage was lovely with everything we needed for a happy holiday ."

A cosy fire for chilly evenings and exceptionally comfortable beds with beautiful country side on our doorstep. we had a lovely time dispite it raining solidly for 5 of our 7 days . For us the only draw back was we had our dog with us who we had to keep on a lead at all times outside the house because of the close proximity of the next door house/garden obviously private with instructions not to go into their garden at any time .Interestingly we did note that there was a public footpath which you can only access by walking over the next door garden. We wondered how that worked ? There was no mention of this at all ,but there was a sign quite clearly at the entrance of the drive and a stile in next doors garden in stone wall. I dont think this is an easy area if you have a big dog and want to go for off lead walks as there are sheep in every field , meaning leads at all times ,if we wanted a good walk we had to leave the dog in the car because you can't leave dogs in the house. Its no fault of the house at all maybe we should have done more reaserch .

Thank you for your feedback. If we may clarify, there is a public right of way that runs through our front garden and our neighbour's garden, leading to a public footpath. In the past some guests with dogs felt free to use our neighbour's garden, hence the request to respect our neigbour's privacy. For any guests with a dog, please bear in mind that our cottage is in the middle of the Dales and farmland where sheep graze, and it is your responsibility to ensure that your dog is well behaved and does not chase sheep. We hope your dog will still have a lovely time going on walks with you on a lead! Property Owner

  • "This is a wonderful cottage to stay in."

The location is peaceful but close to walks, a train station, Hawes and Sedbergh and it is also easy to access other areas of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes from here. The cottage has ample room for six people and is well kitted out making it easy to cook meals. The cottage is also very comfortable and feels like staying in someone's home rather than a bland holiday rental.

  • "We’ve just enjoyed our second week at Farrier’s Cottage and hope to be back for a third before long."

As a base to explore the western Dales and the Howgills it couldn’t be better located, with both Hawes and the lovely Sedbergh within easy reach (you could easily fill a very varied week of walking without driving for much longer than 20 mins each time to start). Having had better weather this week we realised how special the garden is, below what feels like a natural amphitheatre of the fells with a view down the dale to the western sky and often a beautiful sunset. The cottage itself is historic and atmospheric but still homely and comfortable.

The cottage is lovelier than it looks in the photos. Beds are comfortable, kitchen is well equipped, very useful utility room with full sized fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer (also flagged floor so good place to leave a wet dog to dry off). King sized bedroom with family bathroom at one end of the first floor. Second double and twin room at the other end gave us some privacy from our teenage children. Antique furniture throughout was lovely but if I had young children I might have been a bit worried about their damaging it. Great for older families or two (or three) couples on holiday together. We'd definitely return.

There’s lots of great walks nearby and interesting places to visit. Unfortunately the cottage was a bit dirty with crumbs on the kitchen worktops, a broken shower and a bed that looked like it hadn’t been changed. Perhaps the cleaning service had been self isolating before the official advice came in? I presume this was a one off as we had always been to very clean properties with other companies like rural retreats. I contacted the owner who was very helpful and offered an interim clean.

Three cars came from differing places and we all had difficulty in locating our destination but local people were friendly and helpful in putting us right.
