Loved the little extras like a a bottle of Radox by the bath, hand soap by all the sinks and the position of the bird feeder outside the kitchen window was great! Both showers were hot and with good pressure and also an air fryer in the kitchen. Huge credit to you Brian, thank you for letting us enjoy our holiday in your beautiful cottage.

The level of finish and the equipment provided were second to none. We stayed at the back end of September and the cottage was always lovely and warm. It is certainly the best holiday cottage I’ve stayed in. The owner is conveniently on site and more than happy to help should he be needed but he wasn’t. However he still came to see us off at the end of our stay. Lovely man. Reference is made of the proximity to the road but you cannot hear it from inside the cottage day or night so don’t let that sway your decision to stay here.

We stayed as a group of four adults, two older ones (us unfortunately!) and our daughter and her partner. There was plenty of room for all of us. There was lots to do in the area - the ‘children’ had great fun visiting three of the local caverns, Buxton and the Chee Dale stepping stones. We were keen to avoid the crowds, so have enjoyed walking in the remote moors and hills. I can particularly recommend walking from the car park near Bowden Bridge up and along Kinder Reservoir. Castleton is only a short 5 mins drive away and has lots of pretty shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants. There are numerous walks straight from the town as well as some caverns too. We parked in the visitor centre car park, which was about £5 for the day – more than enough time to explore, do some walks and have an afternoon meal. Edale, Hathersage and Buxton are also all within a short drive from the property and worth a look, Buxton has some larger more varied shops and a lovely park. There are also supermarkets close to the property in nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith, so we never had to travel very far. The property itself was very comfortable, we really miss the comfy reclining chairs! It was a great place to return to after a long walk to relax and unwind. The roll top bath was gorgeous and the shower was very powerful, both great for easing tired muscles. It has been thoughtfully renovated and was a really nice place to stay and relax. To the front of the property is a walled garden area with patio table and chairs. We were really fortunate to get beautiful weather in mid-late September and it was really lovely to sit outside and enjoy the views and sun. The friendly group of hens and peacock would waddle over to greet us when we came out and would seem to enjoy our company, sitting around us as we all soaked some rays. I wasn't sure if the peacock would be noisy but it was actually quite quiet, and they made the stay that bit more special. I would recommend Peacock Cottage to anyone wanting to do some walks and explore this part of the Peak District, it's a lovely place to come back to and unwind.

  • "I cannot emphasise enough how wonderful this cottage is."

Everything is really high end from the en suite shower that you can have a sauna in, right up to the leather sofas that have individual reclining abilities. There is loads to do near by, you definitely don't have to be a rambler to enjoy the location, and Alton Towers theme park is only 30 minutes drive away. We had great fun feeding the chickens and Kevin the Peacock grapes by hand, they really are that friendly and tame. We could not pick fault with this cottage and its location and Brian the owner is always available for help or advice. 10 out of 10 all the way :)

Brian the owner is a great character with a lot in common with myself, it has been a pleasure to meet him and his family that live next door. The cottage has been refurbished to the highest standard and is faultless. I cannot fault this property at all. As a seasoned hill walker and geocacher the surrounding countryside is a dream come true with some stunning walks and views. There are some very high standard restaurants and pubs within a reasonable distance and dining out has been a pleasure. This cottage is highly recommended by myself and my wife and my sister. 5***** rating.
