The village of Les Basses Roches is in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside and historic towns. There is a wealth of architectural treasures in the surrounding area.
The pretty market town of Aulnay is 5 minutes away by car or a pleasant walk. Here there are restaurants, cafes/bars, supermarket, fuel, an open air pool, local shops, brocantes and twice weekly market. 15 minutes' drive away is the mediaeval town of St Jean d'Angély with more options for restaurants, cafes, banks, shops and the large Atlantis indoor swimming centre. Some of France's most famous historic towns such as Poitiers, Angouleme and Cognac are also within an hour's drive.
The coast can be reached by car in less than an hour. Chataillon-le-Plage is the nearest beach at approx 45 minute drive, offering miles of golden sand and safe swimming. The busy seaside resort of Royan with five sheltered beaches, the beautiful Ile de Ré and Ile d'Oleron near La Rochelle are all an hour away
