Casa Rafela is a two bed-roomed, typical Catalan stone cottage that has been carefully restored by its present owners over the past two decades using traditional methods and materials. It is located in the tiny village, or rather hamlet, of FÃgols which lies within La Terreta, one of Catalonia's rich natural heritage spaces. The village of nestles beneath the 1000 metre escarpment of the Sierra de Montllobar in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.
Whilst kites, vultures and other raptors circle overhead the house looks out directly over orchards and open woodland before the landscape drops sharply to the floor of the Conca de Tremp, once the bed of an inland sea where dinosaurs roamed during the Cretaceous period. In the distance the peaks surrounding the Principality of Andorra can be seen, snow capped from October to May, whereas nearer to hand lies the Sierras de Baumort, like Montllobat, is also a Reserva Nacional de Caza , which equates to a National Park in Great Britain.
Over to the south stretches the great barrier of the Sierra de Montsec, bisected by ravines boasting three hundred metre sheer cliffs and having its own distinct micro climate with several sub-species of flora and fauna and which is, you've guessed, another Reserva Nacional de Caza!
FÃgols is situated right at the heart of in this once remote area. There is more than enough to see and do to suit whatever taste: outward bound and adventure sports, teeming wildlife, rich cultural heritage and much more!
This holiday cottage in Lleida is pet / dog friendly.
The village overlooks the valley of the river Noguera Pallaresa in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees. Ours is a fascinating area with plenty on offer to suit all tastes: from high mountain peaks to bosky forests, from action sports to relaxing country walks. not forgetting the spectacular Aigüestortes National Park. It
The village itself has a homely ‘Mediterranean' ambience, however, with its olive groves and vineyards. FÃgols is very much a real village as most of the twenty-odd houses are still owned by the original families, although most actually live in the nearby market town of Tremp, a fifteen minute drive away.
As well as making an ideal base for exploring this fascinating area Casa Rafela offers a perfect contrast to a ‘normal' Spanish holiday on the coasts such as the Costa Brava, or an ‘antidote' to a city break in Catalonia's wonderful main cities; Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona (Reus). All of these local airports are about three hours drive as is the French border.
