There are several smaller beaches and criques within walking distance and you can stroll along beyond the main beach of Pontaillac into Royan which is the main resort in the area. La Palmyre is 10kms up the road, with one of the best Zoos in France, and just this side of the Zoo is an 18 hole Golf course. this is a great area for cycling too and of course water sports. Try also to visit the very pretty village of Talmont sur Gironde 20kms South and La Rochelle is just over an hour's drive and a great place for another day out.
