Can Andy Murray Do It This Year At Wimbledon?

The prestigious tennis tournament returns to London


Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis competition in the world. The Wimbledon tournament is based in London every year and has welcomed some of the best tennis players of all time over the last 100 years. Wimbledon is also one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is the only one which has a grass court; other Grand Slam tournaments include French Open, Australian Open and U.S Open. Wimbledon takes place over a two week period starting late June early July. Some of this years big names include Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and of course the British hopeful Andy Murray. Fans were treated to an exciting first day when Rafal Nadal was beaten in the first round.

As Wimbledon is considered one of the year's major sporting events, tourists from the UK and around the globe help support and celebrate their favourite players. Thousands of people try to get hold of Wimbledon tickets each year and many are left disappointed as they are hard to come by. For a seat in one of the main courts you have to take part in a public ballot. However, if you are prepared to wait in a long queue for admission to the grounds, then tickets are on sale everyday at the gates.

London is an exciting city location that is popular all year round, whatever the weather and although some people have preferred times of the year, what better time to visit London than during Wimbledon. If this city wasn't big enough the extra tourists and holiday makers increases making the atmosphere full of fun and cheer. London has many world famous landmarks and attractions, not to mention the very popular Royal family. The new Royal baby of Prince William and Princess Catherine is due this summer, surely there will be lots of celebrations in this amazing capital city.
