  • "We have stayed in this property numerous times now and it is perfect for a family holiday and is set in a beautiful location with a sense of isolation, yet still close enough to walk to local amenities."

We are looking forward to our next stay!

  • "Superb cottage in a lovely location, love the river and space around, views are stunning from the top of the drive and its just a few minutes from Windermere."

Will stay here again if we ‘do the lakes’ again.

  • "Beautiful house and location, peaceful, very comfortable, clean."

Met the sheep farmer who keeps a herd in the grounds. V informative. Probably don’t bother bringing your fishing gear as he hadn’t seen any fish in the river for some years now. Didn’t stop me having a cast though!

  • "If there was a compost bin we would have used it."

beautiful property and very well kept. glad no one was afraid of sheep, maybe some steps cut into the river bank would give safe access to the stream and stepping stones .beautiful views, and great location for accessing bus routes, and amenities. would defiantly be happy to stay again.

  • "Lovely house and great holiday."

No negatives except it would be nice if the photos showed that there is a house that overlooks you when you're sitting on the front patio but this didn't spoil our holiday.

Thank you for your comments, we are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay. We take all comments on board. We hope to welcome you again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic stay in this wonderful location!"

So very relaxing, with the open space in front of the house (and wildlife - roebuck? I guess and owls), the two sitting areas outside, the steam right beside the property. We found everything clean, spacious and very well equipped. Just a short drive fom Ampleside and the lake Windermere, close to activities and attractions. We highly recommend Riverside and also thank Lakelovers, who provided us with all necessary infos regarding our stay. Looking forward to coming back! Karin, Austria

  • "Amazing property in a fabulous location."

The open space in front with the sheep, lambs and foxes was brilliant entertainment for the kids. The kids equally loved splashing in the stream. The location is ideal with easy access to the lake 5min drive away (where we swam and SUP’d) and Ambleside just a short drive away for cafes, restaurants and take aways. Would highly recommend!!

  • "Great family week in a beautiful house."

Very comfortable, clean and well equipped for 8 people. Lots of space inside the house to accommodate a large group. Front field of sheep great to wake up too. Stream / river in full flow following a week of heavy rain so no water play or field play. The cottage has a steep driveway from the Troutbeck lane. Was slippy in heavy rain. An excellent stay. Thank you.

  • "Excellent location which is close to many fabulous walks."

The property is fabulous, being spacious inside and with extensive sitting areas if the weather is good. Perfect for a large group.

  • "We all had a brilliant week, which does not mean that all was perfect."

the property, while we loved it, has a very tired kitchen and really needs a proper swing bin rather then the present inadequate provision. Our party was an extended family group comprising 3 households which made it very difficult as there are just 2 sets of keys enabling the opening of the 2 sets of electric gates so that some running backwards and forwards had to take place in the event that we all left separately ( the 1'st gates are some distance from the property ). As there is only 1 shower and all 8 of us would rather shower than bath there were some logistical problems. Having said that we all agreed that we would book this property again without hesitation. The lounge / living / dining areas are super and the aspect wonderful.

  • "I can't think of any improvements but just to say the property met our needs and exceeded expectations."

For a party of seven adults and a toddler the layout of the property worked brilliantly as well as being very conveniently located. Loved the field of sheep at the end of the drive!

The property

Riverside is a wonderful property for a large family group or friends getting together for a magical holiday in the Lake District.

Its riverside setting is very special, especially as it comes with fishing rights, and with 12 acres of grounds to explore guests may struggle to tear themselves away from this idyllic spot.

The drive to Riverside has electric gates to add to the sense of total seclusion and leads to the house where there is parking for 4 cars.

The sitting room is filled with lovely places to sit and relax, the stunning open fire adding to the sense of grandeur and enormous arched patio doors and windows look out to the surrounding countryside.

The well-equipped kitchen leads off this central living space, and in turn has stable doors opening on to yet another sunny terrace.

Down to the lower ground floor with a utility room and fabulous king size room with amazing views and separate shower room.

The utility room doubles as a second kitchen. A second king size room can be found on the second floor, along with the house bathroom and double room with en-suite wc.

Hidden on the top floor is the final bedroom with three single beds and separate wc.

This room proves extremely popular with groups of children and younger teenagers.

Only a few miles down the road are the villages of Bowness, Windermere and Ambleside.

Whether shopping for groceries, looking for a lively spot for lunch, to catch a film or explore Lake Windermere with its cruises and boats for hire, Riverside’s location takes some beating.

About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
