  • "I enjoyed my stay at Little Hart Crag, which is in a great location within easy reach of the lake and Ambleside itself."

The apartment is a good size, clean and had all the amenities you need. I didn't experience any major issues while staying there but there are two things I would comment on. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a damp smell in the bedroom which is not very pleasant. Another thing to note is when it rains (as it often does in Cumbria) the road immediately outside the flat floods and passing traffic (the property is right in the road) sprays water on the front door and windows, which is both loud and problematic when returning and leaving. Not sure if anything can be done about that, but guests should be mindful of this during the rainy season. Other than those two things, the apartment was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone needed a well-located stay in Ambleside for hiking in the hills.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us some feedback. The owner will be able to see your comment and so can assess the issues. It is unfortunate about the road but as suggested, there is not much that can be done. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and all that the area has to offer. • "I have already complained to Sykes regarding this property and will be following this up if I do not hear back from them in the next few days."

In brief: The property has a damp, nasty odour permeating throughout, including the furniture. The property was dirty. There was a chopping board in the kitchen with thick blue mould on both sides. The carpet was dirty. Although the property is advertised as being on a main road, it should be also advised that the road is heavily used 24/7. If you are a light sleeper, do not book this cottage. Overall this is not a pleasant cottage to stay at. Sykes' 4 star rating could not be further from the truth. We use Sykes two or three times a year, but this booking has not met their standards at all.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear of the issues that you experienced during your stay. We understand that our Housekeeping Team have attended the property to resolve. Due to the proximity of the road from the property, noise disturbance is to be expected. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "We could have done with it being advertised as a ground floor but with sme steps."

we could have used the instruction manual for the cooker struggled to work it, we would have like a safety mat in the shower and a glass jug for the microwave

  • "The apartment was incredibly loud, day and night due to the neighbouring road."

The bedroom light wasn't working, to which I had to call maintenance twice about - to only then find out they knew about the faulty lighting ahead of me moving in, thanks for the heads up! You cant open the curtains to let the light in, as the bedroom is directly onto the pavement along the road, nobody wants to see me dry myself after a shower. The shower, was AMAZING once you're in - if you are on the bigger side of people, you may struggle to squeeze through the gap to get in. I'm not a fat person, nor am I skinny - but it was a close call fitting through the shower door. There was a washing machine in the apartment which was great, however no clothes horse to hang your clothes - odd. The information on the apartment WIFI is handwritten on the windowsill, although barely legible (Use a computer!!!) The sofa wasn't comfortable, as you can guess via the pictures. After a long beautiful hike across the lakes, come back to that. There was food still left in the cupboards, I assume from previous tenants. I've stayed in other Sykes managed apartments and have been greeted by a wonderful gift basket (Lowe-mcconnell), such a wonderful touch - really makes the trip - worth a thought?!

  • "We really enjoyed our stay!"

The location was perfect, close enough to the centre to walk yet not too close that it was too busy. We were able to access the mountains easily from the apartment by car and had lots to do in Ambleside. Our only constructive criticism would be that we found that the apartment could have been a little better equipped with extra cooking utensils and maybe extra towels etc. Staying for a weekend would have been ideal but as we stayed for a week we could have done with an extra few things! Otherwise highly recommended, thanks for having us.

Thank you-we will make the appropriate changes Property Owner

Ideal for a couple or a solo traveller, the apartment is just a short walk from the centre of Ambleside, where amenities provide you with all you need for a well-deserved, self-catered break.

On entering the property, an open-plan living space presents a kitchen, dining area for two, and a sitting area with a toasty electric stove.

Whip up your meals in the kitchen, with a handy dishwasher to save you from the washing up, before dining at the table as you plan your excursions for the trip.

From here, flick on the fire and sink into the sofa to watch a film on the Smart TV.

Following a day of exploring the local area, return to the apartment and relax with a hot shower, complete with a warm towel from the rail.

When sleep calls, make your way down the stairs and straight back up another set to find a plush king-size bed with a Smart TV adjacent for your lazier mornings, and storage to unpack your belongings in your home-from-home.

With so much to see and do in the area, be sure to take a trip to the cascading falls of Stock Ghyll Force, before enjoying a more leisurely stroll with a picnic at the lakeside Borrans Park.

History enthusiasts can make their way to the Ambleside Roman Fort or admire the architecture of the National Trust's Wray Castle, which is within easy reach and home to manicured grounds.

The National Trust also boasts Hill Top, a charming farmhouse once the home of Beatrix Potter, and Sizergh where you will find a rock garden and a 14th-century house and estate.

Fans of literature may want to take a trip to visit Peter Rabbit and friends at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, while the avid golfer may want to spend an afternoon at Windermere Golf Club.

For something a little different while in the area, the Lakeland Maze Farm Park is reachable by car, or you can bend your mind at the fascinating Puzzling Place.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
