With historical attractions, bars, restaurants, shops - and of course, the golf course! - just a few minutes away, Villa Montserrat is a popular choice with those who want to enjoy idyllic countryside surroundings while being only a stone's throw from where all the action is! Established in 1986 and redesigned in 2000, Pollensa's golf course is one of the many reasons the area is so popular as a holiday destination. This stunning nine-hole course offers incredible views of the Tramuntana mountains and the bays of both Pollensa and Alcudia and is known for having two of the longest holes in Mallorca. The course is of medium difficulty, with plenty of undulating fairways and protected by trees and other obstacles, making it ideal for players of any handicap.
If golf isn't your thing, you needn't worry - it's just a small part of what Pollensa is all about! The ancient town centre is well worth a visit, and it is here that you'll find a vibrant mix of cultures that have influenced the architecture and monuments in the town over thousands of years, including the medieval church and watchtower. On sundays, the main square is home to a bustling street market, where you'll be able to purchase fresh local produce such as fruits and vegetables, bread, meats and olive oil before heading to one of the many local bars or cafes for a hot coffee, refreshing juice, or a well-earned glass of delicious local wine. It's worth noting that although the town is small and easy to explore, it can be steep and uneven in places, so good footwear is essential!
While you've got your ‘good' shoes on, you'd be remiss not to check out another popular attraction - the Clavari steps, which lead from the Placa Major to the top of the town, where you'll discover the beautiful little Church of Nostra Senyora dels Angels. At midday, the light spills through the church's gorgeous stained glass windows, which really is a sight to behold, but whatever time you visit, you'll be rewarded with this stunning building's intricate interior, as well as some incredible views over the town. The walk isn't an easy one - with over 300 steps! - so this might be best avoided if you're visiting with young children.
Pollensa isn't known for its nightlife (you won't find any big nightclubs here), but it does offer a warm and cosy buzz after dark! The area is one of the quieter holiday spots in Mallorca, so it's never packed…locals and tourists socialise in the main square and along the seafront near to the port once the sun has gone down, and there's a great atmosphere in and around the terrace bars and restaurants. A lot of the bars will have live music or karaoke, so you're sure to find somewhere that has a vibe you'll enjoy. If you really want to get your groove on, there is one small nightclub just off the main square that is open until the early hours and is popular with the younger crowd. If you're looking for more intense nightlife, nearby Alcudia has bars and clubs aplenty, with popular haunts being Banana Club, Cafe Milano, and La Nit Music.
