  • "Cosy and very well equipped cottage."

We really liked the location just outside the village and the great walks that were possible from the front door. Particularly liked the wood windows rather than plastic which has disfigured so many cottages in the Yorkshire Dales.

  • "Superbly equipped and very cosy little cottage."

Enjoyed a week of blissful peace and quiet. Location is excellent for nearby walking and not too far from the bigger tourist attractions of the Dales. Hard to fault it, hopefully I’ll return to Joe House very soon.

Thanks for the lovely feedback Doug - glad you had a peaceful week Property Owner

  • "A very atmospheric and cosy cottage away from the thoughts of Covid."

The drive down to the cottage needed to be taken with care when wet but was OK. Shame the Kings Head was closed for the week but we did have a great meal on Saturday the drive to Tan Hill Inn was good but the meal there was not good and expensive for over done scampi and cold underdone chips. The cottage was just what we wished for, a time to totaly chill out and relax.

  • "Wonderful cottage very well renovated and altered a few years ago, very warm and cosy and very well equipped in a fairly remote part of Swaledale, but only a few miles from Reeth and Muker and a mile from Gunnerside."

Wonderful scenery and wildlife and plenty of walks within easy reach. Friendly ducks from the adjoining property were regular daily visitors. Looking forward to a return visit. Babs and Ken, East Yorkshire.

  • "Awful uncomfortable sofa and shower which trickled out!"

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are sorry that you found the sofa uncomfortable, we will of course check this though no one else has previously mentioned it to be an issue. We have had the shower checked and they could find no problem with it. If we had known that you were experiencing issues at the property at the time of your stay, we would have endeavored to do all we could to resolve these as guests experience of our property is paramount. • "Lovely cottage with everything we needed in an isolated quiet spot, yet close to local amenities."

Pheasants and ducks in the garden (and sheep if you did not shut the gate properly!) Only one thing to be wary of, it is not for the less abled, uneven path and steep stairs could catch out the unwary, the drive needed careful negotiation otherwise was perfect.

About the location

GUNNERSIDE

Reeth 6 miles; Richmond 15 miles.

Situated in the heart of Swaledale, Gunnerside is one of the prettiest villages in the Dales National Park. Something of a sleepy backwater, it is surrounded by traditional farm meadows, pastures and fells, with the pretty Gunnerside Beck running through the village centre before joining the glorious River Swale on the village outskirts. Amongst the cluster of old stone houses there is Ghyllfoot Tea Room and the village pub serves good food at lunchtime and in the evening. The market towns of Richmond, Leyburn, Hawes and Barnard Castle are all within 15 miles making Gunnerside a scenic and central base from which to tour the Dales.
