  • "Gorgeous property in a beautiful location."

Stunning area if you enjoy walking and excellent location for pub goers. It is a large property but still feels cosy and homely. We particularly enjoyed the fire and the pool table. Property is well equipped and many amenities close by. Would highly recommend.

  • "The house is lovely."

It was very comfortable and very clean. There was a lot of attention to detail and nice extras for Christmas. The pool table was a big hit. It is on a busy road, we knew this and it was fine, it might bother some people though. Great pub quiz at the Peak Hotel, lots of cafes and walks from the door. Thank you.

Perfect cottage, large enough for seven guests, cosy, comfortable and stylish. Right in the centre of Castleton with parking outside of the door. Such a perfect stay. Made even more perfect by the generosity and warm welcome of the perfect host. Julia was on hand for any question we had. We cannot wait to return.

  • "The pool table was great, we like the back patio and appreciated the bottle of wine."

We also loved Castleton. The road noise made it very difficult to sleep in the front bedrooms or relax in the living room. We contemplated leaving early, it was so bad. If double glazing isn’t possible heavy curtains would help. The single bed was very uncomfortable, I would suggest it needs a new mattress. It was not possible to sleep on it. The living room had a strong smelling diffuser in, which me and my daughter are allergic to and because the window can’t be opened that meant I could not use that room. The house was very dark and gloomy and the grey furnishings didn’t help. It was also very dusty and some of the furniture was shaby, and some of the draws didn’t open. The main bedroom was damp and there was either damp or dust inside the dresser draws which got on our clothes. We did our best to clean out all the draws before using them, but that doesn’t feel like we should have had to do that. Overall it’s a lovely cottage with great space inside, it had a lovely bathroom and was in an amazing village but it needs some investment to soften the road noise and brighten it up. So we won’t be staying again.

Dear mrs Duggen I am so pleased that you won’t be returning due to the damage that you caused! I have actually put a ban on from returning in the future with Sykes cottages. I can assure my future guests that the house is not damp in the slightest and the it has large windows in each room and is very spacious, I do feel that my complaint about you to Sykes has triggered off your poor feed back is is very sad and damaging. The furniture in the property is solid antique furniture but I will wax the runners next time I am there. I had a beautiful upholstered chair which got badly vandalised and all the pretty cord( which wasn’t loose in the slightest) ripped and cut into pieces which I had to remove from the cottage, and it took a lot of elbow grease to remote all the biro scribbles from the paint work in the bedrooms. I am still horrified that you took it on yourself to vandalise and hack at my wisteria creeper which was growing lovely around my window hiding pipe work! The ivy I do hope will grow back, I was deeply saddened plus using my kitchen scissors to do this! I also have part of my glass light fitting missing?? Yes we are in the centre of Castleton and by the road but the traffic noise dose quieten down in the evening. I do apologise you didn’t like the room scent, you could have just popped it outside with a note to myself in-fact I did say when talking to you that any problems do feel free to contact me? Well I will say the property felt grubby after you left with marks on the walls and the damage you did but two cleans later I feel happier! I do hope that future holiday lets you visit you treat them with more respect than you did mine. It’s a comfort that you will not be returning. I do my upper most to make the house as decorated as much as I can, yes the over all colour scheme is greys and whites but not at all dark as most rooms are painted in f/b strong white and with spot lights and plenty of lighting/lamps with high ceilings…obviously the house wasn’t yo your taste and I am curious with the damage caused and mess how you must live yourselves!? As I say it’s a comfort and relief that you do not wish to return. Kindest regards Julia Property Owner

The house is extraordinary - welcoming, so beautiful and very well equipped. It is perfectly situated in the middle of the village with all amenities, including buses, within close walking distance. Julia made us feel very welcome with a set tea tray, milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine. We felt trusted and cared for as guests (which is not always a given) an aspect which greatly adds to the feeling of comfort! We would love to come back! Thank you for a wonderful week!

Very well presented, very comfortable, though one of the doubles is a bit of a squeeze for two people (bed against wall). Great welcome with tea, biscuits a even wine! Only slightly negative thing to mention is that we had no control over the heating. Heating was set to come on twice a day but it seemed like the wrong time to come on as we were out. Made up for it with the wood burner downstairs but beds were cold after 9pm.

Comfortable, clean, very good facilities and ideal location. The pool table is an really welcome addition and kept some of our group entertained for hours. I will definitely consider this cottage when I visit again. The location is good and it is only a few minutes to walk to any of the pubs and restaurants (and there are many to visit) The owner Julia has an arrangement to provide free parking close by which is useful as the town gets busy on a summer weekend. She also leaves a very helpful welcome pack that covers many kitchen and bathroom essentials. When you first arrive you might be concerned by road noise but dont worry. It really quietens down in the evening.

Great kitchen and dining room, and the pool table and WiFi much appreciated. Very handy for everything with shops on the doorstep and never a problem parking. Owner was very, very helpful (as were the neighbours). One minor niggle - despite the owner giving instructions the TV refused to switch from the DVD player to the satellite (scrolling the input menu simply did not work) until the eldest (IT savvy) worked out that you could trick the TV by switching the HDMi input cables after the DVD had started up. With no control of the CH, it was a bit chilly in the evenings away from the fire - but not really a problem. Curiously I couldn't find the cottage as available through the Sykes site, but did through Snaptrip. All in all would happily stay at Chandler House again and highly recommend - the best we have stayed at in the area.
