  • "Our stay at Barley Hill House was simply fantastic."

The house is tucked away with a long drive, and views over countryside from every window. The photos on the listing do not do credit to how lovely this place is. We made great use of the fireplace as also of the well-stocked games room (table tennis, pool, air hockey, PS5) and the cherry-on-top was the outdoor hot tub. The owner has clearly put a lot of effort into making this a lovely house to relax and stay in, from the excellent sound system to the well-stocked with utensils kitchen. We will definitely be coming back.

I am so pleased you enjoyed yourselves over New Year. The views are fantastic even more so in the summer. We look forward to welcoming you back Property Owner

  • "Barley Hill House was the perfect spot for Christmas with extended family (including two toddlers)."

Beautiful property, lots of space, great kitchen, pub at the end of the drive and lots to do and see on foot or by car nearby. There’s a great little grocer in the village and it’s <10 mins drive to numerous grocers in Chipping Norton. We really enjoyed the wood fired hot tub, the games room and spent lots of time around the fire place. Thanks for a great stay.

I am very glad to hear you all enjoyed yourselves at Christmas, no matter what your age. We hope to see you again Property Owner

As was the case last time, the house was immaculate and had everything we needed. David was also incredibly communicative and made sure the hot tub was hot on our arrival! The kids enjoyed the games room and PS5 even more this year, letting the adults relax and catch up. Again, would highly recommend Barley Hill House!

So pleased to hear you enjoyed your annual event and stay at Barley Hill. The games room certainly serves to keep the attention of kids; young and old. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "There were a lot of blue bottle flies in the kitchen and dining room at the beginning of the stay which were hard to get rid of."

The hot tub was also very difficult to use and to get up to temperature which was disappointing. Otherwise a fantastic stay which was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us for my 30th birthday celebrations! David was also an excellent host and very accommodating.

I am very sorry to hear about the flies. I have been in the property after you and there have not been any. I do not know what caused it, however it appears to have been a very temporary situation. Regarding the hot tub it sounds like you did not keep the fire going as it is wood fired. Despite these challenges I am very pleased to hear that you had a wonderful celebration. Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at Barley Hill!"

The house and grounds were lovely and we were supplied with everything we needed such as extra towels, tv subscriptions, fully equipped kitchen etc. The owner was in touch via text and phone call with lots of useful information before our stay and was happy to answer any questions, as well as making sure we were getting on ok. We were on a family weekend away and everyone from grandparents to our six week old baby had a much needed relaxing weekend. Although we could have easily spent the entire stay at the property it is well worth a visit into the local village for a Sunday roast or afternoon drinks.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, it is always great to hear guests have enjoyed themselves. I am so pleased the house worked well across the generations, it has always been a wonderful family house. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely weekend away, it was a surprise birthday weekend for my dad."

The cottage has all you need for a fantastic stay, most places you need to take extra towels, but not here, they had more than enough for the bathrooms and hot tub. The games room quickly became our most favourite room, quickly followed by the hot tub. Hats off to the owner too, he messaged beforehand with advice for travel, local shops, pubs and advice on Diddly Squat Farm, couldn’t do enough for us. There are lots of different bins for waste, personally I would have the all together, as it got a little confusing running around the kitchen to find which bin was where. However it didn’t take it away from a fabulous weekend in the cottage and we would happily go back again.

I am so pleased you enjoyed your weekend and that my suggestions were helpful; we try our very best. I am afraid that the kitchen design is fixed so I am glad that it did not detract from your enjoyment. The hot tub and games room do seem to a hit. Thank you again Property Owner

  • "Whilst this is a fabulous property, when we arrived there was no water."

Our arrival time of 7.30pm meant there was no way of contacting anyone until the next day. I rang at 9.00am and a plumber came at 11.30am. We eventually had water at 2pm. Clearly this was not acceptable and the owner contacted us directly to apologise and offer us some monetary compensation. This did not materialise and when we returned home, the management company tried to blame us for breaking the blinds in the dining area and for allowing our dog to urinate on a mat. This was totally incorrect. The blinds did not work and the dog's water bowl was the reason behind the stains on the mat. We had to wait 3 weeks to receive £65 compensation which, bearing in mind how much we paid for this property and how much we have spent with Sykes over the past few years, is totally unfair. We were without water for 19 hours. No shower no drinking water and unable to flush the toilets. I will be making a formal complaint.

First of all let me apologise again for the lack of water on your arrival. This was an unforeseen, unfortunate fact, for which I apologised and rectified as quickly as possible. I paid the agreed sum despite you trying to avoid paying for an additional dog, damaging the blind and your dogs urinating in the kitchen. I will continue with facts: 1. All guest have my direct number (as can be seen by other reviews comments) 2. We spoke on Friday night, the plumbers arrived the next morning. They fixed everything except the two kitchen taps which were rectified on Monday morning 3. The property is cleaned and checked immediately before and after all guests arrival. The water was working perfectly as were the blinds, hours before your arrival . 4 .Immediately after your departure the cleaners rang me reporting a smell of urine in the kitchen and the the broken blind. Thus clearly you are responsible. I talked to Sykes about the damage and decided not to be petty and withhold part of your deposit, you did agree to pay for the extra dog but not the damage and cleaning. In view of this I regretted agreeing to compensation, as it was clear that you were trying to take advantage, but none the less kept my word. To quote the late Queen: ‘recollections may vary’. It is a shame that reviews are one way and that owners are not allowed to share their experience of guests. Property Owner

  • "We loved Barley Hill House."

The area, the property, it is just so beautiful! There isn't anything we would say we didn't like about it. We were only 3 people (and a dog) staying, so our favourite room was the snug with fire. We were in there most of the time in the evenings and used a fair bit of firewood (which was readily available, and very well cut and dried.) The Sonos was great. The bedrooms are luxurious, and we all commented that the beds were extremely comfy. The kitchen is well equipped. We cooked two dinners whilst there, and all of the needed tools/pans/etc were there and easy to find, which was a relief! The breakfast/dining room was just glorious with the views during the day. We so enjoyed watching the little birds and tits at the suet feeders in the beautiful tree outside the dining room that we bought one for our own garden and have been entertained by it ever since! We had Friday night dinner at The Tite Inn, it’s a very easy walk even with a geriatric dog. It was nice, welcoming, food was good, and certainly had a good Friday night vibe. David (the owner) was extremely helpful in the run up to our stay and when we had a question during the stay, he responded immediately. We’d definitely go back to Barley Hill House. It’s quite a wonderful place in the Cotswolds! Thanks again, David.

I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Barley Hill, the views and the open fires do make the house special. Eating breakfast and watching the birds can be very entertaining, so I am pleased this piqued your interest to continue at home. Lovely to hear you enjoyed the music in every room, it really makes a difference to those who love music. Thank you for your kind comments towards me, we all try our best to give everyone the best possible stay. Property Owner
