  • "We had an outstanding holiday."

The location is one of the best we've been to and has waterfalls, wildlife and fantastic walks right on its doorstep. We will return in the future. 10/10

Thank you for this great review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and made the most of the surrounding area. We look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

  • "I haven't received my petrol deposit back yet."

The 10am check-out time is insulting given the myriad requests for tidying up before we leave and the price was innacurate as referenced on VRBO - no mention of the 124+ pound booking fee there and no mention on either sykes or vrbo of a 100 pound petrol deposit (which I haven't gotten back yet despite leaving with more petrol there than when we arrived)

Thank you for your feedback. We can only apologise for the delay in payment of your deposit. We are chasing this with the owner to make sure it is given back to you and will update you accordingly. We hope that this did not create a lasting impact on your stay and would love to welcome you back any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "Character cottages have been the worst company in the entire world to deal with, so much so, that I thought I had been scammed and I was surprised there was actually a property to go to."

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole! They kept saying I hadn't paid anything (I had paid it all), threatening to cancel my holiday and never returned my calls despite every person promising they would do so, right up until about 2 weeks before we arrived! The cottage location was INCREDIBLE!! Never been to anything so outstandingly beautiful. However, it could be listed and run better for the money I paid. It was not clear that all petrol costs must be covered IN ADDITION to the holiday costs paid and was lucky it ran out in the morning so we could get to a gas station. It should be more clear that as a result of the petrol generator, that the fridge is not in constant use (unless you are a millionaire to pay for the fuel prices these days) and thus it is safer not to buy too much food that may spoil or chicken products over night. Alternatively, it does not seem unreasonable that, as with any other holiday accommodation in the entire universe, you should not need to pay for routine utility bills, such as electric, therefore, sufficient petrol should have been provided. Especially when nothing was stipulated that petrol is an additional cost! Property was clean on entry but the flaking paint and rugs/boxes propped up made it not feel as cozy as it could as well as the passive aggressive stipulations on what is/isn't allowed. The garden outside could also be incredibly lovely but has been left for the nettles and thistles for half of it. In addition, there are numerous small improvements that could made this property 5* for no investment really. As the handbook said, it is a shame people felt the need to dismantle some of the ruins for a fire pit... So perhaps a chimner would be a nice addition. As well as: A bird table and bird book Some art on the walls Some more local books The use of towels A sun lounger Comfortable mattresses Toilet facilities appropriate to your stay, a week's holiday will need more than 2 toilet rolls and whilst hand soap and fairy liquid was available, bubble bath for that fantastic bath and some soaps and shampoos are provided routinely at cheaper cottages. Coffee, tea, uht milk and welcome biscuits would have nice after an exceptional drive to the lonely cottage too. Bigger and essential jobs for the simple functionality of the property desperately need to be addressed too, such as the render on the outside with a massive crack and the rotting single pane wooden window frames. This meant the property was freezing on arrival and as it was summer we had not packed thermals so we had to buy some. We believe the oil fire had been turned off on the master switch somewhere due to the passive aggressive notes in the handbook which complained about how much oil people had been using. There were heaters in every room but none were connected so I am not sure what the plan is there.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologise that your stay was not what you had hoped for and the way you feel about Character Cottages. As your booking was integrated, the emails you received were in fact automated and it was explained to yourself on several occasions that we would not be cancelling your stay. We appreciate your comments on the area of the property, as well as the suggestions for improvement. Please know that if you experience any issues as such in the future at another property, we are on hand 24 hours a day to assist you and resolve them as quickly as possible. Property Owner

  • "Stayed there for a short period though enjoyed it a lot."

The location is perfect, completely off-grid yet close to shops. House is beautiful and well maintained. All amenities are really good and satisfactory. Communication with the landlady was informative and helpful. Just a few heads-up in case if you wondering, The hot water is limited so use it carefully, I felt discomfort only on this facility. Kitchen stove is not a traditional stove so if you love cooking take your own stove for convenience. And the bedrooms do not have heating so be prepare if you visiting the place on cold days. The location will not disappoint you. I will definitely recommend this to my friends.

  • "In short this is a fantastic little gem of a property away from the hustle of everyday life."

The cottage has everything you need and is warmed by the front room burner and the kitchen Range which did us proud! The scenery is spectacular and we just did not want to leave the place! Amazingly stunning all round!

  • "I wanted to write a quick thank you for a lovely stay at Hafod Y Rhedrwydd at the end of August."

We loved the location of the cottage, the amazing views and getting away from it all. We had one sheep who seemed to magically appear in the garden and not sure how they managed to get in as the gate was always shut, but the girls thought it was fun!

  • "All my family loved staying at this cottage within Snowdonia."

It's beautifully set at a height near the top of this range of green hills, with a stream running through the property. There's plenty to explore round about and tourist destinations are easy to get to, and all within 40 minutes of scenic driving. There's a small price to pay for the beautiful spot with having to use a petrol generator and oil range stove which take a little getting used to. You also cannot drink the tap water but the owners provided plenty of bottled water. They also had a range of books to read, and TV/DVDs that my children watched at night. Broadband internet and wifi is present (When the generator is on) and was good enough to check emails and search the web for local attractions. We couldn't get enough of the views around this scenic cottage and would certainly rent this property again when visiting the area.
