Beckaford view - is a treasure - well equipped with a fabulous outlook - on the negative due to the cold weather the underfloor heating never got warm enough and though there was a small wood burner the wood supplied would have only lasted a night - that said i would definately look to return in the future

  • "A beautifully restored barn with fantastic views over Dartmoor National Park."

Very high quality and comfortably fitted out, making it a perfect retreat for a couple and dog. Situated up on the moor, makes it a perfect location to visit the National park and very close to Haytor rocks and many other Tors. Highly recommend.

  • "We stayed beginning of Oct 2023."

Incredibly lucky with the weather we had three beautiful days and the remainder of the week was largely dry. Beckaford View was absolutely beautiful, the owners have done a wonderful job in restoring the place and it was lovely to read it's history. The large picture window frames a simply stunning view across the valley. The directions were spot on and easy to follow (we simply used the postcode which brings you out at the top of the drive) The property was spotless & very comfortable.. A lovely shower room, open plan lower floor & nice mezzanine bedroom that takes in the view when you wake up.. The bed was very comfortable and it was a nice/welcome touch to have some milk & drinks packets ready for arrival.. We travelled from Essex so in our case very welcome... The property is at the entrance to Dartmoor we enjoyed spending time with our dog on the moor. Haytor Rocks well worth a visit as was Hound Tor, said to be the inspiration for Hound Of The Baskervilles. Loads of places to explore in and around South Devon which is itself stunning.. The owners provide a really handy visitors book and it was so useful to see where others had ventured out to & then recommended.. I would suggest it should be one of the first things to do as you settle in. A practical thing for the owners to consider.. 1. A mirror for the bedroom, my wife had to stand & plug her hair dryer in the kitchen whilst using the bathroom mirror, so 1 upstairs would have been perfect.. That 1 practical thing aside we loved our stay and had a wonderful week.. We would definitely stay again & we don't say that often.. Highly recommended..

Thank You so much for the wonderful review. We have now installed a large mirror on the mezzanine and it looks fab!! Thanks for the idea. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was fabulous in every way: fresh, clean and newly constructed, beautifully designed and conceived, very tastefully decorated, brilliantly thought out functionally, spectacular enormous viewing window to make the very most of the breathtaking countryside view, truly unique and fabulous bedroom mezzanine floor with same spectacular view from nice comfy bed through very clever and innovative luxury glass safety partition with lovely tactile stainless steel hand rail along the top of it, very comfortable, functional open plan downstairs living room/kitchen with beautifully designed and artistically constructed, roof-high, feature stonework chimney, fireplace, corner feature with very functional and neat log burner."

This terrific cottage was the perfect base for exploring Devon and Dartmoor and it's pretty villages and towns. Each morning we ran 5k up the road and across Dartmoor and we also walked to and climbed several of these distinctive Dartmoor , igneous rock Tors which are encrusted all through with their very distinctive scattering of little bars of felspar mineral. We also loved spotting the local wildlife and birds especially including buzzards, sparrow hawk, tawny owls jays and ravens which flew casually by the amazing viewing window making the cottage seem like an ingenious bird hide at times! We also enjoyed some fantastic and very good value meals in several nearby village pubs. Also the Bovey Tracey 'Parke' park provided lovely rambling riverside walks and challenging trout dry fly fishing on the River Bovey for beautiful Devon brown trout. Finally, the Bovey Tracey fish and chip shop offered really excellent cod or haddock fish suppers at the end of a day or two!

  • "The most perfect perfect stay!"

I booked this as my first little solo trip away with my dog and it was just perfect. The cottage itself was stunning! I was so so sad leaving this little retreat behind! The scenic window was the making of this property, and any future bookers should note that the sunrise will wake you- and that’s a waking you will want to view! The sunrise rolling up over the moors actually is breath taking, I have a phone full of pictures of it! Lying in bed watching the animals run around the garden was dreamy. I’m a big walker so location for AllTrails was perfect with Haytor and Becky Falls very close. The bed was super comfortable, and the kitchen had everything I needed. Only minor downside was the fact there wasn’t a full length mirror, only the over basin one tucked into the bathroom, and maybe there could be a little bench added for extra seating area in the top part of the garden as the sun lingers there alot longer ☺️ I’ve already looked to re book another time to see the changes of weather and wanting to make use of the fire, Beckaford has probably got to be the most perfect cottage I’ve booked over my years. Thank you ☺️

Thank you for such a wonderful review. We have now installed a big mirror on the mezzanine level and we love the idea of utilising the top garden for seating in the evening. We certainly will look into getting a bench installed there. Property Owner

So cosy and that window view every single day was incredible. We did not use the eye masks provided as we were happy to be awoken by that glorious sunrise each morning. Bobby the cat was a bonus, his cheeky little visits for cuddles by the fireplace made the stay even better. We could not fault Beckaford View one bit.

  • "I had a wonderful 3 day break in Beckaford View."

It is probably the nicest holiday home I’ve had the pleasure of staying in. The barn is sympathetically converted and kept lots of the original features. The kitchen is amazing with a great provision / range of equipment- they even have weighing scales (I take my own for dog food and this is the first place to ever provide them). The barn feels really spacious. The bedroom has a gorgeous outlook. It faces east so you have the full sunrise in the morning - I could sleep through but the dogs couldn’t! The only downside was that there wasn’t a secure area I could allow my dogs off lead as it’s situated next to a working farm (lots of signage to request dogs are on lead). Because of this I didn’t feel like I could enjoy the garden area which was a shame.

Whilst the blinds are only half way, this actually help made the stay as we woke up seeing the sky (I didn't wear a mask as didn't need to, although they were supplied) and the property is not overlooked. The shower was fantastic and the bed was comfortable. The information supplied by the property owner was really useful.
