Comfortable beds, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and plenty of space. It’s a great place to stay. Very quiet and calming. It’s only a short walk to a gorgeous beach if you take the zig zag steps path but you can also drive or walk to another beach about a mile away where there are toilets and a little cafe. Lovely area and plenty of places to visit by car.

  • "Often we have booked holiday accommodation after looking at the reviews and more often than not we have been at least somewhat disappointed."

This bungalow is an exception. It is very spacious inside and the sea views are much better than we expected. Two small terraces that face the view. One note, if you can sit outside we would suggest taking some folding chairs as the metal patio furniture is not very comfortable. Would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

  • "Lovely bungalow with 3 good size bedrooms."

Fabulous views across to the sea from comfortable sitting room or sitting in well maintained, quiet, front garden. Slightly dated in parts, but excellent Bosch fridge freezer, and white goods. Lovely hot shower over bath. A few minor points: Some issues with sitting room windows opening, which owner wasn't aware of and was fixing. Tempered glass worktop protectors, that grate on your knife, but no ordinary chopping boards. If you cook from scratch there was no large casserole or saute pan for "one-pot" meals. Only a few mismatched wine glasses, mostly small ones, which owner said he would sort. None of these are big problems unless you book for 6 adult size people and want eat in.

It’s in a beautiful location with some stunning views. The property itself was very cosy but much bigger on the inside than you’d expect! It was very easy to get comfy and felt like home away from home. It is ideally located, with towns only a short drive away and some lovely walks close by. We would have no hesitations about recommending a stay here, and very much hope to come back again in future. Jamie was incredibly helpful and gave us some information about the property before our stay. Thank you so much for letting us stay in this beautiful home - we had a wonderful time.

  • "Merrydown is like the TARDIS, bigger on the inside than it is on the out!"

When we first arrived we couldn't get in as (unbeknownst to us) the key safe is behind the double doors on the side of the cottage. A quick ring to the owner put us on the right track and from there on in it was all wonderful. All the rooms were spacious and impeccably clean. There were lots of little features that raised the property to above average. Mum's disabled and spends more time in the cottage than my sister and I, so the Sky TV and Amazon Firestick were particularly appreciated. The FOUR piece suite in the living room was extremely comfortable and the beds were just right for us (not too soft, I get back ache in a soft bed.) We used Merrydown as a base of operations and visited as far north as Bangor and as far south as Dolgellau. we had wall to wall sunshine for the first half of the week but the second half was more overcast. we got a bit of rain but it didn't dampen our experience. Just half a mile down the road from Merrydown there's a slate mine (Llanfair Slate Caverns) and, from the carpark you get the most spectacular view over Shell Island. You feel like a god looking down on creation! Although no newbies to Wales, this is the first time we'd been this far south but it won't be the last. It's a beautiful part of the world full of friendly people and jaw-dropping scenery and Merrydown was the icing on the cake. We loved it!

  • "The property was ideal in itself and handily situated for walking to the coast and inland along footpaths (some remoter paths were on the OS map but hard to find when we got there, sometimes because of fallen trees, or no indication of where to go)."

There was only one food shop, a long walk involved! No free cash machine!! The café next to the beach preferred cash. Awesome views of Snowdonia, Llyn, Llandanwg and Mochras beaches, also Rhinog mountains. Heartily recommended.

No up to date leaflets in cottage (those there appear to be from 2018). No local shops so on arrival after a long journey would have been nice to find some milk in the fridge to have a cup of tea. On occasions felt cold in property but not able to control central heating if required without phoning owner. Information sheet needs to be laminated and cleaned for each new let or new paper sheet provided for each new let. Lovely views from the cottage and vey peaceful and tranquil there.

It has spectactular views over Shell Island and the hills towards Barmouth. My Feedback which would have improved it: The driveway proved quite difficult to navigate as it was a bit narrow which made it a challenge to reverse the car out of. Driving into it was OK though. In the main bedroom a king size bed would have improved things as far as sleeping was concerned. Not keen on laminate floor in bedrooms.
