More about finding holiday accommodation in Hungary

Being the most visited Hungarian city, Budapest alone could keep you busy for months - with stunning sites spanning all eras. Just walking the streets is fascinating, taking in the romantic views from the bridges, including the iconic Széchenyi Chain Bridge, as you stand above the River Danube and stopping to spot the bullet holes scarring the walls of the riverside Hungarian Parliament building, left over from the 1956 uprising. At night, holiday makers will find an eclectic mix of old and new - warehouses converted into chic upscale bars, snazzy terraces and the trendy 'ruin bars' - these bars are somewhat unique set in the ruins of Budapest’s old Jewish Quarter, generally with a courtyard and several bars to take advantage of - 'Szimpla Kert' was the original and as good a place as any to start. If you feel the need to wind down on your trip to Budapest, then take advantage of the abundance of thermal waters by visiting an historic thermal bathhouse such as Széchenyi or the 16th century Rudas. In the western part of the country, another major holiday destiantion is Lake Balaton - the largest lake in Central Europe - boasting many resorts along its shoreline including Siofok and Heviz.
