Ski Apartments & Chalets In The Swiss Alps

The alpine region of Switzerland, more commonly known as the Swiss Alps, covers a large area and is home to vast varied landscapes with high peaks, mountain ranges, peaceful lakes and rivers. A number of sites in the Swiss Alps have also been brought under protection to ensure the safety of endangered species.

The Swiss National Park in Graubünden is one of the first major area to come under protection and became the first alpine national park in 1914. The largest protected area in the country is the Parc Ela, a nature reserve rich in stunning scenery and national cultural assets.

Many of the primary ski and winter sports destinations are located in Valais region, Bernese Oberland and Graubünden. Some villages are car-free meaning public transport is the only means of access. The ski season often starts from as early as November and runs to as late as May; although the majority of ski resorts in Switzerland tend to open in December and run through to April.
