The Binibeca Vell area is a remodelled fishing village that was restored carefully in 1972. It is made up of holiday apartments, a labyrinth of charming streets with limestone houses. Binibeca is backed with a nature reserve and sand dunes and looks over an uninhabited island called Illa de l'Aire, which has a famous lighthouse. Menorca as a whole enjoys a more leisurely feel and a slower pace than some of the other Balearic Islands. However, there's plenty of activities on the island, as well as 99 beaches to discover. There are several water parks, a lovely harbour and many opportunities to observe local wildlife. Menorca is also home to excellent tapas and a famous gin called Xoriguer. There are rocks for snorkelling around, and kayaks can be rented here. In the same area, there are also four other smaller coves - Biniancolla, Binisafuller, Biniparratx and Binidali. This beach has a great diving school where you can explore an underwater shipwreck. Just a short drive away is the Calas Coves, with lapis-coloured water framed by picturesque cliffs. Or, for a more adventurous beach, visit the island's best-kept secret, Cala Escorxada. It can be reached by a one-hour hike from Santo Tomas. Follow the coastal route to be rewarded with pristine sands, dazzling turquoise water and far fewer people than other beaches in the area.
