Islamlar Village is a great example with the Pinarbasi Terrace. The views are seriously impressive, as is the cuisine. If you don’t want to drive, you can take a taxi into the alpine hills, through tiny hamlets and past families sitting on sofas in their gardens enjoying the cool air. Springs diverted from the mountains into the village of Islamlar have led to a thriving trout farming industry. A favourite outing from Kalkan is a trip to the eye-watering Saklikent Gorge. It is a 20-30 minute drive from Kalkan and is 18km long and 300m deep, one of the deepest canyons in the world. It was opened as a national park in 1996. You can visit all year round through between November and March the water can be very high so you may not get very far. It is such fun wading, climbing, swimming, and sliding through. The fresh mountain water is cold and often up to waist height in stretches. There is also an option for river rafting. It is lovely to enjoy a fresh fish waterside meal at the end of your adventure.
