Villa Cerqueto is a restored farmhouse in a peaceful hillside position overlooking the Gulf of Naples close to Massa Lubrense. Within a 20-minute drive is the town of Sorrento, with a string of sandy beaches lapped by azure waters dotted along the coast. With the countryside, fascinating towns and the glittering sea so close by, activities such as hiking, bike rides, watersports and historic sightseeing are all just a short journey away. You also have your own slice of countryside to enjoy at Villa Cerqueto. The extensive, terraced gardens offer a mix of lush lawns and tucked-away courtyard corners for unwinding and taking in the sea views. This historic villa dates back to the late 18th century and is set over three floors, with each floor offering self-contained accommodation. There are five ensuite double bedrooms in total, with a sixth bedroom found in an independently-accessed annexe with its own lounge and kitchen. This makes Villa Cerqueto ideal for groups of friends or families wanting to enjoy a holiday together, with additional space and privacy. The bedrooms, living/dining areas and kitchens of the ground and first floors are full of antiques and original features that sit alongside modern comforts and conveniences. Terracotta and faience tiles remind you of the villa's heritage wherever you choose to relax, dine or socialise. The top attic floor is more contemporary in style, with a stunning open lounge space for casual gatherings and moments of quiet contemplation. There's also a large terrace that opens up some of the very best views. More terraces and dining areas are on offer around the grounds of the villa. Dine al fresco in the garden or on the villa's charming main terrace. Ancient features such as a water well and fountain sit just metres away. The lawned gardens are also home to a swimming pool and a number of seating areas. And the abundance of typical Mediterranean trees, plants and flowers creates an enchanting atmosphere by day or by night. Head to nearby Massa Lubrense to enjoy fresh seafood meals in a choice of restaurants by the pretty harbour. And soak up sea views from the beach in the fishing village of Marina di Puolo, which is just a 20-minute drive from the villa. The town of Sorrento is also within easy reach, with plenty of historic sightseeing to do in its old town. This lovely town offers a range of restaurants and shops, as well as banks and a post office. It's also a great place to take a break from shopping and sightseeing and enjoy spectacular views over the Gulf of Naples. One of the nearest beaches is at Marina di Puolo. This traditional fishing village offers a quiet, sandy stretch to relax on and calm waters for swimming. It's also well-known for its seafood cuisine, with many restaurants putting tables right on the beach for you to enjoy an authentic experience. Other great beaches within easy reach include Giardino Romantico and Mitigliano Beach. Giardino Romantico boasts a range of facilities, such as sun lounger hire, a bar selling food and drinks, showers, toilets and changing rooms. The pretty coastal town of Sorrento is just a 25-minute drive away. It's famous for its lemons, with lots of shops selling lemon-themed souvenirs as well as local crafts along its charming streets. The old town is full of historic buildings to marvel at, such as a bell tower, monastery, cathedral, and the 14th-century church Chiesa di San Francesco. One of the most popular places to stop for a drink and do some people watching is Piazza Tasso, which is lined with cafes, ice cream shops, restaurants and bars. Ancient sites and natural wonders are ideal for longer days out. The archaeological site of Pompeii is an hour away by car, with the journey to majestic Mount Vesuvius taking around 90 minutes.
