The town is also known for traditional festivals and historical performances, in particular La Giostra del Saracino taking place in June and September: the knights of the neighborhoods challenge each other with the spear hitting a wooden statue. Cortona, the main cultural and tourist center of the Val di Chiana, is at 30 km, and Lake Trasimeno at only 40 km. Do not miss a visit by ferry to the Polvese and Maggiore islands, the area around the lake is also full of trekking or cycling routes.
