Placa de l'Almonia is just a short walk away from the town centre and is home to a very special house. This house was run by a group of university students who provided essential wheat and money to some of Pollensa's peasants. In addition, this square was used as a battleground on 30h May 1550 when the citizens were forced to defend themselves against a group of violent ambushers. Thus, the modern-day citizens hold a ceremony every August to honour the bravery of those who lost their lives during this conflict. If you are looking for a free attraction to visit, the Pollensa Museum is also just a stone's throw away from the town centre. This museum originally hosted a varied collection of Gothic altarpieces, some of which are still on show today. Despite its 16th-century roots, the museum was not officially founded until 1975. During this time, the Pollensa Museum received a lot of praise for its archaic collection, especially during the Summer Exhibition of Painting.
