New York is a world city recognized for many reasons; its iconic landmarks, unique attractions and 24/7 buzzling atmosphere are just the tip of the iceberg. Without a doubt one of the world's most sought-after destinations, NYC is a metropolis that will far from disappoint.

No stranger to the entertainment industry, New York has seen its fair share of filming lime-light over the years, showcasing in hundreds and hundreds of blockbuster movies and TV series. Both the city's famous hot-spots and some of those lesser-known locations feature on our very TV screens almost on a daily basis, with some of the filming industry's greatest moments were captured in New York City.

Wall Street

Remember the very recent The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio as Jordan Belfort? Wall Street is the beating heart of New York's financial district. Home of the New York Stock Exchange, the world's largest financial exchange this area has featured in many films across the years including the original Wall Street (1987) along with Rogue Trader (1999) and Trading Places (1983).

Central Park

One of New York's most beloved attractions, Central Park is an urbanized green area in the centre of the Big Apple. A tranquil hideaway surrounded by the city's skyscrapers, the park boasts lush forestry, beautiful lakes and feature fountains. Movies including Maid in Manhattan (2002) and What Happens in Vegas (2007) both feature scenes shot in Central Park, as well as other films including I am Legend (2006) and the Marvel hit The Avengers (2011).

Museum of Natural History

The Museum of Natural History is one of the top attractions for all tourists and vacationers. Located on Manhattan's Upper West Side the museum is home to one-of-a-kind displays and artefacts, alongside being one of the largest and most important buildings in the world. A number of Hollywood blockbusters including A Night at the Museum (2006) starring Ben Stiller were shot here as well as the classic 80s sequel - Ghostbusters 2 (1989).

The Empire State Building

Built in 1931 and has been one of New York's oldest and most iconic skyscrapers ever since, the Empire State Building held the reign of “World's Tallest Building” for almost 40 years up until 1970. Set in Manhattan's Midtown this famous tower has featured in many movie hits over the years including the well-known scene from Sleepless in Seattle (1993) starring Tom Hanks and the reworked version of King Kong (2005).

FAO Schwarz Toy Store – 767 5th Ave

FAO Schwarz Toy Store is probably most recognisable for its role in the movie “BIG”, a 1988 classic, featuring Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins. The brilliant toy store scenes were filmed in the store itself (you may remember the one famous floor piano). The film takes you through the wonderland of toys, games, books, puzzle, stuffed animals, dolls and collectables. The famous outlet is still open today and welcomes millions of visitors every year.

Bedford Street, Greenwich Village

What may look like a typical New York apartment block, actually holds a legendary status of being the home to the beloved Friends TV Series. Located on Bedford Street, Greenwich Village this apartment block hosted 10 years of the well-known sitcom before its final episode in 2004.

Grand Central Station

Grand Central Terminal (GCT) is a commuter railway terminal at 42nd Street, Park Ave, New York. Recognised as one of the city's top ten tourist attractions welcoming approximately 21.6 million visitors per year, the station has rapidly become a very popular spot. Grand Central Station has also provided the perfect backdrop for many big screen films such as Superman (1978), Eternal Sunshine (2004) with Jim Carey and Old Dogs (2009) starring John Travolta and the late Robin Williams.

Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in the USA. Connecting the districts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, the bridge crosses the East River and allows both cars and pedestrians to cross making it easily accessible. Featured in many movie hits including Two for the Money (2005) and box office favourites Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) and Limitless (2011) featuring Bradley Cooper.

Time Square

Probably the world's most recognisable public space, Time Square is one of New York's busiest hubs, from eateries, advertising screens, photo opportunities and socialising areas, Time Square is bright lights and thriving space. Seen throughout many films over the years, Time Square is instantly recognisable; featured in Jerry Maguire (1996) and Vanilla Sky (2001) both starring Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

Tiffany & Co. 5th Ave

Tiffany's is a worldwide luxury brand most known for its diamond splendours inclusive of jewellery, watches, china and crystal amongst other fine goods. Home to Tiffany's HQ, New York is an important centre for this retailer. The classic Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) featuring Audrey Hepburn was filmed here, as well as the engagement scene in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) featuring Reese Witherspoon.

The Waldorf Astoria


The Waldorf Astoria is an upmarket hotel in Manhattan, although slightly different from the cities well-known landmarks and attractions. The Waldorf Astoria has seen its fair share of camera time, featuring in many films including the 1990 classic - The Godfather: Part 3, Alfie (2004) and The Adjustment Bureau (2011).


Statue of Liberty


A gift to the United States from France, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated to New York in 1886 and has since been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated on Liberty Island, Lady Liberty is only accessible by boat, ferry or air. The Oscar winning movie Titanic (1997) was based on a true story of the Titanic sinking in 1912. Towards the end of the movie, there is a scene featuring the Statue itself when the survivors of the infamous disaster arrived in New York.


13 North Moor Street, Tribeca


You may remember our next New York film location from the 1984 original Ghostbuster movie. 13 N Moor Street in Tribeca, NYC. Known as Ghostbusters headquarters in the film, this small firehouse was the base of this memorable comedy, and is still standing today. Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, the hilarious foursome of ghost hunters based at this iconic building cement itself in many childhood memories.

Perry Street, West Village


On to another famous quarter, although with much more glamour and sophistication, the ladies of the Sex and the City series were often united at Carrie Bradshaw's West Village apartment in New York. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte were the ladies of New York 1998 -2004 with as many cocktails, good times, tears and tantrums as you can imagine. This quirky West Village street was part of the Sex and the City saga for six seasons.
