The relaxed Menorcan pace of life will no doubt be easy to follow here, with lazy days by the gated swimming pool perhaps finished with a glass of wine from a local producer. The sleepy hamlet of Llucmacanes (Llumesanas) in Menorca is situated approximately five minutes drive from both the island's capital town of Mahon and the much smaller but charming 18th century town of San Luis (Sant Lluis). A picturesque settlement (population circa 200), Llucmacanes is surrounded by open countryside complete with vineyards and quiet country paths that are ideally suited to walking and cycling. The local shop that caters for most requirements is owned by a friendly Menorcan family. The nearby towns of Sant Climent and San Luis have some very nice bars and restaurants, with an even wider choice in Mahon and Es Castell including some fantastic waterfront locations.The fine white sandy beaches at Alcaufar, Binibeca and Punta Prima are a short drive away, and are ideal for families with younger children or non-swimmers. Walking or cycling along country lanes, spotting typical dry stone walls and subtle but beautiful flora and fauna, it's a picture-perfect scene. You may also come across the Basilica des Fornas de Torello nearby - the remains of an old Roman church with faded but fascinating mosaics. There's a local shop in the town, but if you require something more, Llucmacanes is perfectly located to reach the capital, Mahon, the lovely town of San Luis or San Clemente - all of which have fantastic bars, cafes and restaurants.
