The medieval walls surround intricate streets and the town has a supermarket, lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Within a few minutes’walk of the Cortijo is the tiny village of San Ambrosio which boasts an excellent family-run restaurant. The natural park 'La Breña y Marismas de Barbate' is also a short walk away. 6km in the other direction from Vejer, you come to the beautiful beach of Los Caños de Meca backed by 30m cliffs and pine-hooded sand-dunes. The Trafalgar lighthouse continues to light the bay where Admiral Nelson died during the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Between the lighthouse and the famous surf beach of El Palmar with its surf schools and shops lies Zahara, one of Andalucía’s prettiest beaches.
