Immerse yourself in old-world charm and rich culture when you stay at our holiday rental cottage in the spectacular town of Semur-en-Auxois, located in the world-famous Cote d'Or region of Burgundy, France. The house is a two-bedroom, three-bathroom cottage located on the banks of a winding river, with breathtaking views of the remnants of the old town wall and once-powerful castle of Semur.

Being only a few minutes' walk from the center of town, yet located between a cliff face and the river, the house is perfectly located and offers a blend of access to amenities and private retreat. You can spend your holiday meandering through the charming streets of Semur and relaxing in the cozy salon, which has magnificent views -- especially when the ramparts are lit up at night -- or you can use the house as a home base for your exploration of all the local Cote d'Or region has to offer.

The living room is the gem of the house, with wall-to-wall windows overlooking the river and the ramparts. There are two large sofas, one of which can convert into a bed. There are also two comfortable leather chairs, meaning that the living room can comfortably seat eight even before you consider the corner nook with a small table and two chairs. There is both a DVD player and a VCR, as well as a stereo/CD/mp3 player. If you prefer more traditional diversions, there is a small selection of books, as well as board games and puzzles.

The kitchen was recently renovated and retains its old-world charm while providing all modern conveniences. There is plenty of counter space to prepare a meal, as well as full-size large appliances and a range of smaller appliances. For coffee lovers, we have a coffee grinder as well as filter, press, and Moka coffee makers. For chefs, there is a variety of pots, pans and baking dishes as well as every utensil you will need. The kitchen table comfortably seats 4 (up to 6), and we keep the cabinets stocked with basic necessities such as sugar, salt, oil & vinegar, so that you don't have to raid the supermarket just to cook a few meals.

The upper bedroom is the larger of the two, accessible by stairs from the kitchen. It has a US queen/UK king bed as well as a reading area with two chairs and a desk with internet access (wifi is throughout the house). There is a full closet plus a balcony with stunning views, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.

The lower bedroom is very private, accessible from its own exterior entrance at river level. Its bedding is flexible: it can be made up as two twins or a king, depending on your preference. It has a large wardrobe for clothes storage and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. The lower bedroom also has direct access to the riverfront patio, so please be aware that it may not be suitable for young children.

There is a bathroom on each floor of the house. Each of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers, and the main level of the house has a bathroom with a roll-top/claw-foot tub, perfect for a luxurious bubble bath. The bathrooms were all renovated in 2009/2010; the main bathroom was done in a traditional style with exposed stone and antique-style fixtures, and the two en-suites were identically renovated in modern, gleaming finishes for total comfort.

Please note that your rental fee includes all linens and towels, including plush bathrobes.

Semur-en-Auxois is a gorgeous town with medieval roots and friendly residents. It is a fully-functioning modern town that retains its "ancienne charme" and offers a perfect blend of amenities and history. The house is within Semur, so it is close to anything you may need, whether it be a grocery store, bakery, deli, pharmacy, bank, hospital (though we hope you won't need it, it's nice to know it's there) -- you will likely have many to choose from. There are enough restaurants in Semur for you to eat at a different one every night; for more casual fare there are numerous bars, brasseries and cafes. Semur also has a charming museum and is home to one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the region.

Once you step outside Semur, your options only multiply. There are Roman and Celtic ruins, marvelous chateaux, medieval fortresses, stunning architecture, and -- of course -- world-famous vineyards. Burgundy is a diverse region with a proud heritage and a welcoming population.

Booking Terms & Cancellation Policy

When you inquire, we will send you our full rental contract, which is signed by all parties as part of the booking.
Our basic terms are:
* 25% initial payment to secure the booking
* Remaining payment due 6 weeks before scheduled arrival
* Refundable security deposit: €250 per week
* Guests are advised to acquire fully comprehensive travel insurance to guard against unexpected cancellation.

We offer discounts for multi-week bookings, and long-term off-season lets are substantially discounted: inquire for details.
