First part of our top 10 series looks at the popular Balearic Island of Majorca

During this feature we are going to be discussing our recent choice of the 10 best holiday rental destinations for 2014. Each destination has something different to offer whether it being a bustling city or a relaxing beach setting. Starting with number 10, The Balearic Island of Majorca has many different aspects as to what makes it one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain.

Majorca has forever been one of the most popular parts of Spain. As one of the islands that make up the Balearic Islands as well as Menorca and Ibiza, Majorca has a well-known reputation amongst British and European holiday makers. The warm weather in the summer attracts thousands of tourists looking for holiday retreat away. The good food, rich culture and impressive beaches also play major roles to the island's personality and appearance. Not to mention the short flight time making it ideal as a quick getaway, nervous flyers or if you are travelling with younger passengers (sometimes longer flight times can become stressful when travelling with toddlers and children). Many regional airports and affordable airlines can also offer great flight deals throughout the year, making it more manageable to afford a holiday abroad (we all know money can be a bit tight at the moment).

Palma is the capital city and is the cultural centre of Majorca, with one of Europe's most impressive cathedrals dominating the skyline. Other tourist areas in Majorca include…

Alcudia – has a great contrast of traditional and modern with the rustic old town which is more inland and lively coastline and marina filled with entertainment and bars.

Pollensa –tucked away in the mountains with stunning sea views full of history; about 10 minutes from the beach via car.

Santa Ponsa –with impressive beaches and a buzzing nightlife, Santa Ponsa sure has the entertainment factor offering many restaurants and bars.

Cala d'Or – with no less than 7 beaches to choose from Cala d'Or offers beautiful coves and low rise buildings so that you can take in the natural beauty of this once fishing village.

Palma Nova – the quieter neighbour of Magaluf, very family-friendly and offers great activities such as water parks and crazy golf.
