Alton Towers - The Great British Theme Park

Are all the best theme parks in Florida? We think Alton Towers in Staffordshire, England is right up there with the massive Orlando theme parks.

Located in the village Alton, in the county of Staffordshire, Alton Towers is a huge leisure development in the UK which includes a theme park, water park and hotel complex. Originally opening in 1860 as a country estate showcasing flower shows and garden tours, the stately home was transformed into a modern theme park in 1980's. In 2003 Alton Towers also welcomed their tropical lagoon water park, complimenting the theme park that is set in the perfect English countryside location.

Considered one of the UK's top theme parks, if not the best, Alton Towers is home to many rides – from well known thrillers to water rides and virtual 4D experiences. The park is constantly developing new rides and attractions, making Alton Towers the front runner attraction of Merlin Entertainment.

You will find some of Europe's best rollercoasters and fast paced rides in Alton Towers including the hair-raising Nemesis and Oblivion, as well as the latest addition “TH13TEEN” and "The Smiler". Other flat rides include The Blade, Ripsaw and Enterprise occupy just a corner of this vast theme park. You will also many water rides and dark rides including Congo River Rapids, The Flume, Duel – The Haunted House and Hex - The Legend of the Towers

Apart from the electrifying iconic rides Alton Towers is well known for, the park has a selection of junior rides too. Heave Ho, Frog Hopper and Driving School are just some of the child-friendly rides – ideal for the little ones. Younger children and all the family will likewise love The Ice Age 4D Experience.

Originally a country estate, the country mansion in the middle of park still retains and maintains its historic charm. As part of the grounds, the public can still admire the lush green gardens and intricate detailing . Fitting nicely alongside the gardens the Lake is again a charming waterscape to enjoy.

Throughout the year Alton Towers in famed for its annual special events including the famous Halloween Scarefest and bonfire firework displays. As well as these popular spectacles Alton Towers also has theme days for Christmas, New Year and Birthday parties.


Alton Towers Water Park

Home to two hotels – Alton Towers Hotel and Splash Landing Hotel the park offers a great base for your adventure here. Perfect and suitable for all guests, these hotels offer great family rooms and suites, themed rooms, onsite entertainment, bars and restaurants. You can even relax and unwind in the Alton Towers Spa where you can spoil yourself with a complete range of personalised spa treatments. Alton Towers Hotel and Spa also received the “Travellers Choice” award in 2014.

On top of the fantastic theme park, hotel complex and spa facilities is the thrilling water park, with countless exciting interactive water features such as lazy rivers, crazy cannons and a water rollercoaster. The Alton Tower water park is open all year round so come and enjoy a splashtastic time.

Prices and tickets vary from £24.60 for senior citizens to £43.20 for a child under 12 and £49.20 for a regular adult, these prices are based on “on the day prices on entrance”. Discounts on prices do apply for online ticket purchases and group discounts also are available.
