Eden Project - Cornwall's World Class Eco Attraction

The Eden Project is a well known tourist attraction based in St. Austell, Cornwall at South West England. The project is home to thousands of plant species from around the world and set in this artificial habitat where people can see and learn about the natural world. It took 2 ½ years to complete the Eden Project and it finally opened in March 2001. As well as being known as one of the top attractions in England, the Eden Project also holds an annual music events called the “Eden Sessions”. Since 2002 artists have included Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen, Snow Patrol, James Morrison, Oasis and many more.

The Eden project is a charity based organisation running environmental projects and doing valuable research into plants conservation, plus doing it all in the most environmentally way possible. This giant greenhouse complex is home to many different plants and insects' life forms which thousands of tourists come to visit each year. It also houses the world's largest and very rare flower – Titan Arum –which only blooms for 48 hours. The project is split into different sections for visitors to explore, including…


Eden Project


    Rainforest Biome – “The largest inside jungle” equipped with tropical plants, waterfalls, and a canopy lookout. You will also discover plants that are used to produce chewing gum, cola and chocolate.
    Mediterranean Biome - “Sensory journey” where you smell everything from lemons, olives to herbs. The warm temperatures bring you Aloe Vera plants and pollen clouds.
    Core – The Core is Eden's educational centre, full of interactive displays suitable for adults and children.
    Gardens – The gardens are an outdoor part of the project with over 80 different exhibits and plots to investigate and explore, which include “the nest” which is a climbing facility for children and a section that tells stories about the different plants.


Inside the Eden Project

St. Austell is the largest town in Cornwall and is known to be a homely community with an urban character. The Eden Project is approximately 10 miles from the Cornish coast.

If you are travelling by car: The Project is well signposted from both the A30 from Exeter and the A391/390 from Plymouth. From outside Cornwall, take the M5 southbound to Exeter, where the motorway splits. Take the A30 and continue until you reach the Innis Downs junction (A391) from which Eden is also well signposted.

Travelling by plane: the nearest airport is Newquay and is serviced by flights from London, Manchester, East Midlands, Leeds, Glasgow, Dublin and some European cities. From the airport you can then take the 556 Greyhound bus to Newquay and connect 527 to Eden.
